Und noch ein Ausschnitt aus einem US Forum:
make sure you have the AC power adapter. Speed shifter cars use AC power instead of DC power.
they can be fun. They have a 2 speed transmission with a light. the car shifts gears by shifting positive and negative power to the motor. the rear axle is a one way clutch the car moves forward only but has no brakes other then the motor magnet. the light was turned on at low speed. high gear the light turns off. the idea being if you drove in the dark have the cars run in low gear with the head lights on.
other cars that are similar in operation was Cateye, Stop police, Blazin' brakes and Speedsteer, ultra 5.
they can be fun the chassis isn't that expensive to find.
come off the line in low gear, shift, hit the first curve down shift slow down floor it, shift, the better and faster you are on the shift the faster around the track you go.
course the cars had enough power you could just leave them in 2nd gear all the time and control the speed through the trigger. the trick was running them at lower voltage then the gear shift became more of an advantage.
the original idea was similar to the Tyco shifter controller. you would have a controller with 4 to 6 gears and center was neutral. when slowing down you centered the stick to neutral. you would have to shift through the gears to control the cars speed. the idea was dumbed down to a trigger controller with a shifter on the back. it sort of defeated the point but it was easier for children to understand. if you have long straights and tight curve sections it works well also.
